The box is taller in the front/or back, depending on whether it is an outside mount or inside mount It does not have to be taller it is just easier to work with. The front, where the hole is, is 12 inches tall. The diameter of the whole is 2 inches. The bottom does not have to be dished but it is nice. The end where the hole is should have a 2x4 in it to keep the nesting material and babies at one end of the box. Those are ventilation holes at the top.

Please remember that the ideas and nest boxes shown here (click) are what has worked for me. Other breeders have had wonderful success with other types of material and types of nest boxes. There is no one way or formula for success.
