Red Throated Conure

Originates: This is one of several green conures that originates in Mexico and South America. This particular subspecies A.h.rubritorquis is found in the highlands of eastern Guatemala and El Salvador to northern Nicaragua.

This is one of the smaller Aratingas weighing about 100 to 125 grams. They can have a loud call raucous call. Their main color is green with the throat and foreneck red; variable red markings are found on the lower cheeks and sides of neck. They are becoming rare in aviculture in the United States.

This is a typical Conure and the description of the personality of the Dusky and the Sun Conure also fit for the red throat. They tend to be rather high strung and they need lots of toys to keep them busy. If left for long periods in their cage they can revert and become cage territorial and not want human contact but when handled regularly they are delightful. They do not take rough handling and seem to resort to plucking if not treated kindly.
